It’s important to specify what type of vehicle you’d like when you make your reservation. Keep in mind that specific makes and models may be limited during the peak tourist season. Our Adobe agents will do their best to provide the car you want. But if your first choice is not available, we’ll find you the closest option to fit your travel needs.
December through February are the country’s busiest months. They also coincide with the dry season when road conditions are best. If possible, make your vehicle and travel arrangements ahead of time to ensure your vehicle’s availability.
Costa Rica is known for its rugged terrain and occasional poor road conditions. Factor in the possibility of encountering steep mountains and dirt roads. For these reasons, we recommend renting an SUV or 4WD if you plan on visiting several destinations during your travels.
The economic and powerful Suzuki Jimny 4WD is the most popular option for single travelers and couples. Next up is the roomy 4-person Hyundai Creta 2WD or the 4WD Mitsubishi ASX.
Customers who are looking for more room and comfort rave about the full-size Chevy Trailblazer SUV 5-seater. Nothing beats the vehicle’s power and durability. If you’re traveling with your extended family or a large group, check out our Hyundai H1 Minivans for up to 9 passengers.
At Adobe, we’ve got the vehicle to meet your travel and business needs!

Things to do in Tamarindo
Nature enthusiasts come to see the plant, bird, and animal species inhabiting the mangrove swamps and coastal ecosystems unique to the region. The nearby Las Baulas National Park protects both marine and land territory, including Playa Grande, a vital nesting ground for giant Leatherback sea turtles.
Visitors can also explore the park’s four beaches: Playa Ventanas, a calm bay with clear waters suitable for swimming, the scenic Playa Langosta, Playa Carbon, and Playa Grande, where strong tides and large waves are favored among surfers.
The park also protects two vital estuaries: the Rio Matapalo and San Francisco River Estuary and the Tamarindo Estuary. The latter is the site of sea kayaking and boating tours into the watery mangroves to witness the vast number of seabirds, animals, and marine life living there, including frigates, crocodiles, caiman, and monkeys.
Turtle nesting tours are available between October and May. Those interested in experiencing the ancient arrival of giant leatherbacks must arrange ahead of time. Space is limited and carefully regulated by the Ministry of the Environment in an effort to protect the creatures from poachers and other intrusions.
A plethora of exciting adventure-tours are also available. Among the options are ATV excursions, canopy tours, zipline adventures, horseback riding, waterfall hikes, and day trips to the many national parks of the province.

Sailing and catamaran excursions are fabulous ways to visit remote white sand beaches and reefs, as well as enjoy a dazzling Pacific sunset. Most tours include a meal, snacks, and beverages.
The recently renovated Flamingo Marina is a full-service outfit just a thirty-minute drive to the north. Inshore and offshore sports fishing for big game species can be booked from the marina’s several providers. Sailing or catamaran tours and boat, jet ski, surfboards, and SUP rentals are also available.
